Kamal Musallam presents Handmade In Hummus Land, the second chapter in the “Homemade In Rome” series, a concept grounded in the long memory of Mediterranean music, tracing its roots to the Roman Empire’s enduring cultural footprint and the spaces it left behind. Ancient amphitheaters still host modern sound. Jazz meets rock. Pop shares ground with older traditions—a living continuum. Kamal Musallam moves through Arabic maqams and quarter tones inside a rich fusion framework shaped by jazz, rock, Latin, and Indian influences. He plays acoustic and electric ouds alongside guitars, including a hybrid instrument developed in collaboration with Ibanez and Godin. His phrasing carries a personal signature. Lines unfold with intention. The result feels immediate, distinct, and fully his own.
